🔍 Marine Darkwaves are extreme events of underwater darkness. They have been introduced and defined in 2026 as sudden, unusual and intense episodes of underwater darkness that can last days to months. These events are often triggered by storms, floods, sediment plumes or algal blooms and can push marine ecosystems into acute stress.
